AB0YY'S ICE STORM MOXON

 

Tuesday Jan 4, Topeka had freezing rain with a 1/2 inch ice build up.

Here are some photos of my 17m moxon and I found it still works.  The swr is 1.7:1.  Even though I can not turn the antenna, I listened to some stations on the west coast and they were still stronger on the moxon than on my 160m 3/8 wire.

I built the arm support out of aluminum which is too soft as you can see in the pictures.  The wire is 14 ga copper stranded,  and the guys for the pushup pole is 1/8" nylon rope.  This stuff really gets heavy with a 1/2" of ice build up.  The crappie poles will be fine after the ice melts.
